CRID Annual Meeting and Workshop June 1, 2013 |
Presenter: Stephanie Jo Kent
This workshop will be run as a ‘think tank’— technically, a Learning Lab for ResiliencyTM (LLR) —to explore and assess the provision of interpreters during public emergencies and declared disasters in the state of Connecticut. Following the system used by FEMA, we will conduct an After Action Review to compile what is known about how the State used interpreters, if there are any gaps to learn from, and how the system can be improved. Reactions and debate about the visibility of sign language interpreters on television during emergency press conferences will be used to prompt analysis. Most importantly, we will identify what is working well in order to establish shared understanding of the foundation for best practice. LLRs are based in the principles of action research and action learning: with participants’ informed consent, parts of the workshop will be videotaped.
