nasdijj: a memoir

this memoir is intense. No doubt some of it is timing (reading it now) but it would be powerful anytime, for anyone who’s paying attention. So, I suspect, is his other stuff.

Some quotes:
“Survival was something you accomplished even in the midst of family.”
“My repetitions are my failures and my songs.”
“Children have to see respect in action in order to imitate it.”
“You are your history in ways you cannot even know.”
“What was can be again.”
“The Snake Dance actually lasts sixteen days. This is more time than most white people have to watch.”
Children: “You have them while you can. And then you don’t have them anymore.”
