if ya wanna....
get your papers and my feedback on them, my office hours (at least for the beginning of the semester) are Wednesdays, 1:30-4:30. Drop on by! (If I'm not IN the office I'm probably across the hall in the computer lab or just ran upstairs to the copy room or something.)
Also, a hearty thanks for the evaluations you all gave me! I appreciate your kind words. AND, it seems you all didn't think I worked you hard enough! Now that is important info! (Future classes may not be so appreciative...!)
Finally, if anyone REALLY wants to go for dinner, you better get busy on it or it just won't happen...
Meanwhile (!) - best of luck to you all for this semester!

Southerners
Alright, my first encounters with southerns have been positive for the most part. Everyone is super friendly almost to the point where it's kinda weird. I have a friend at UMASS whose cousin goes to school down here & I met up with her & one of her friends for lunch today, they didn't think anything of it. I mean I had never met this girl before, I only knew her name. Everything is really laid-back too, but almost so laid-back it's bad. Before I came down here, I called the school to make sure that my grades would transfer over, and she told me not to worry about it, if anythingm I'd be a semester behind at most.... Well, when I came down here for my orientation, I discovered that I was a full YEAR behind. They kind of shrugged at it, who cares they asked?! Well, obviously, I DO! I think I'm going to spend a semester here and then come back to good ol' umass in the fall, but we'll see what happens. As for my racist roomie, she is nothing from the norm down here. Everyone is racist. It's ridicuous. It makes me sick. Forgetting about the racism aspect, she is pretty nice. We reached interpersonal communication on the first say that we met. However, her best friend is living with us for a week or so, and when she is with her friend she is not that easy to talk to. Thus, we have only reached ipc that one time. It's also really warm down here, like mid-70s & it stays light for a lot longer than it does back home, it's 5:25 & its still light out, it doesn't get real dark until about 5:45 or 6. Ok, well that's it for now, i'll keep y'all posted! :)

blogging...
We've got your back, Ashley. Aces on the papers, guys. And I'm posting because commenting isn't doing it for me either. I unfortunately won't be able to make it to dinner either because I am going abroad (to England) on Thursday. I will be back, though and then the sky's the limit.
BLAAARRRRRRG!

Jamie's comment
Steph says: something is definitely wrong with the comment feature, so I guess you better just make new posts (entries). I got this notification with Jamie's comment but it didn't show up where she put it!
From Jamie:
Uhhh... was that supposed to be JANUARY 9?? :) Either way I'm back home in PA right now so I won't be able to make it, unfortunately. I hope everyone had a nice holiday and is enjoying their winter break. Happy 2005!!
uh, yes, was I in the wrong month? lordy knows temporal displacement has been happening a bit too often lately! January 9th is my proposal, if anyone bites.
Steph - I believe that those who "show up" on your list are ONLINE and those are do not are OFFLINE (or invisible or have you blocked). Those who have a little paper icon next to their handle mean that they are AWAY and taking messages. Those whose handles are in a lighter shade mean that they are idle. I hope your winter session class is as fun if not more than ours! The male:female ratio will definitely be interesting. I'm trying to recall if there were any opinions/views/reactions in our class that were common among each gender... hmm :) Keep us updated!
thanks! I scared the willies out of Nikkie this morning, Lizz seemed not quite as shocked. ;-)

comments...
hmm. I just tried to post comments to both Nate and Ashley ... and for some reason they didn't go through. Very weird. Let me know if any of the rest of you have problems. Maybe the site is getting slammed with another round of spam. {sigh}

grades :-)
Congratulations! Everyone did extraordinarily well on your final papers. No one less than an A-. You should all celebrate - not only did we have fun (!) but the most important thing teacher ever watches for is the learning curve. Every single one of you had an upward trajectory, and proved it in your papers. You can go to Spire now to see your final grade for the course.
There are a couple of posts in the blog you might want to check out. And a ton of gross spam; I'm sorry about that. {frown}

South Carolina Part 2
Ok guys at this time tomorrow I will be well on my way to a new life in South Carolina. The fact that I am moving away from everything I know and love didn't really sink in until we started packing up our rental car this afternoon. My friends are coming over tonite for dinner & to say goodbye. I'm beginning to feel uneasy, nervous, anxious, excited just to name a few. After partying with my friends from home for the last time last nite (new years eve) I began to realize how much these people mean to me. They are not ordinary friends the group of 15 or so, girls & guys would do anything for me. I know that they genuinely care about me and for my well-being. Honestly, I already miss my little isolated, farm town. Harvard has been good to me & welcomes me everytime I come home. Well that's it for now... I'll keep you posted with the cultural differences I experience. As for now, "In my mind I'm going to Carolina. Can't you see the sunshine, can't you just feel the moonshine? Ain't it just like a friend of mine to hit me from behind? Yes, I'm going to Carolina in my mind." keep on keepin on

Family
Wow, it seems like ages since I've posted on this-- let's see if I can remember how to do it. So it's the holidays, right? (As I hope all of your holidays are going well) And what does one do at the holidays except spend time with family, am I right? I guess that's just a generalization but I know that my family always congregates en masse during these couple of weeks-- now, of course it's almost over and I'm finding time to comment on all of this. The thing that I wanted to remark on though was the fact that I'm noticing all of the different ways that my family communicates with each other. My family has this was of pissing me off so much so easily and I don't know why that is except that it is my family and I have to put up with them. It's really hard to tell your mom that her filters are on or that your brothers' wrappings are so dense that you can't really tell what he's talking about a lot of the time. It's all baggage right-- but that's what family's for. I tried explaining connected and separate knowing to everyone and they didn't get it-- I don't know, maybe I'm just looking for people to sympathize with me. Gosh, I hope that this course hasn't made me self-righteous. Anyway, just wanted to share-- something tells me this IPC stuff isn't going to go away any time soon.
I hope that you are all well and having good new years (in two days)
