Here's an early woman actor who wasn't mentioned by Elayne Rapping in her review of "Hollywood's Mid-1980s Feminist Heroines".
Thank you Ms. Stephenson. ;-)

I read the entry for Farmer. It's ok, but there is no evidence that Farmer was addicted to any drug, including alcohol or amphetamines or anything else. She was never an alcoholic, drug addict or mentally ill. In her autobiography she says she was never an addict. Of course, the discourse on addiction makes it so that the medical professionals have the final word on who is an addict and who is not. i choose to believe Farmer and not some biographer who gets his or her information from official sources or makes inferences based on the popular paradigms for understanding human being. So, on that note, it's an admirable attempt to bring Farmer's life to light, but it also denigrates her, too.
